In the group show WHERE THE LIGHT GETS IN the painting Shakira, Pepsi Super Bowl LIV Halftime Show, NFL on Fox, 2 February 2020 by artist Xavier Robles de Medina is included. Robles de Medina works with pictures as reference, systematically building up the canvas in a precise and controlled manner. Executed on a wooden panel, the artist employs a technique of applying numerous small strokes of acrylic paint to depict the image of a dancing Shakira. Through this meticulous approach, Robles de Medina conveys the impression of light reflecting off the figure, capturing the fluidity of movement by breaking the image down to details. The pronounced contrasts along the outer contours intensify the effect of spotlights illuminating the stage, and the use of this light creates a sense of depth, giving the impression that the subject's hands extend into space beyond the canvas.
