Performance: Spiral of Time #4/Tessera Floor/Conversation and Beer

Los Angeles based artist Jennifer West, will create a new film live at the Casal Solleric by inviting visitors to take part in altering a filmstrip. The artist is known for making films with unusual materials such as coal-tar dye, eyeliner, whiskey, deodorant and even skateboard wheels. Following the screening of West’s “One Mile Film” at Casal Solleric , audience members are invited to gather to make conversation and drink beer in the historic courtyard where ledges are lined with filmstrips. The visitors are encou- raged to use their beer bottle bases and caps to make scratches, rings, rubbings on the filmstrip and to draw, write and spontaneous mark the film. The frottage, rings, scratches and writing will produce complex and psychedelic patterns on the film surface, leaving a trace of the night event.

The 59 minute filmstrip “One mile film”, commissioned by the High Lane, features images shot by West and her crew in June 2012 of New York locations typically not accessible to the general public. The film also features performances by two New York-based Parkour artists, Thomas Dolan and Vertical Jimenez. Best known for their ability to spontaneous run through urban environments and rooftops, their flips, jumps, rolls, and handstands were double-exposed over images shot around the High Line.
